The Center for Race and Social Problems, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission and the David C. Frederick Honors College will host the “Building a Beloved Community: A Peace and Nonviolence Workshop” on Nov. 17 at Alumni Hall.
The day-long event brings together University and regional community members to explore how nonviolent engagement can foster peace and positive transformation in our communities and beyond. Click here to watch last year's recap video.
Chad Dion Lassiter, executive director of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, will give the keynote address. Lassiter has worked on race, peace and poverty-related issues in the U.S., Africa, Canada, Haiti, Israel and Norway, and is called upon frequently by media outlets to provide commentary on race relations and potential solutions. From April 2023 to December 2024, Lassiter served as a commissioner on President Biden’s Presidential Advisory Commission on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunities for Black Americans.
There also will be facilitated interactive workshops to promote community and peacebuilding, along with panel discussions and networking.
