There are several ways to be mindful on campus this fall

If you’re looking for ways to add some mindfulness to your work day, there are a few activities happening on the Oakland campus this fall to help you out.

Mindset Matters: The Office of Human Resources is sponsoring this online eight-week series as part of Wellness for Life. The 20-minute sessions will be held from 8:30 to 8:50 a.m. from Sept. 3 to Oct. 24. Each session is designed to help you slow down, reflect, and recharge through a journal prompt of the day or to give you time to just be still and enjoy the relaxing music. You don’t have to attend all the sessions or register in advance. Just show up online using this Teams link to join any session. If there is a session you cannot attend live but would like the day's journal prompt/music link, reach out to HR wellness specialist Ashley Boykin at BeWell@pitt.edu.

Meditation Mondays: Heinz Chapel hosts an hour of recorded guided and sound meditation among the gothic architecture and stained glass windows from noon to 1 p.m. each Monday, at least through Nov. 3. The chapel also has quiet hours from 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays for prayer, study or reflection.

Stress Management Mini Series: Human Resources, through Wellness for Life, also is offering these free sessions from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. the second Thursday of the month through December at Heinz Chapel. There’s no registration required. A health coach will present information on valuable skills you can use in your everyday life. Topics include:

  • Sept. 11: Guided Imagery
  • Oct. 9: Chair Yoga
  • Nov. 13: Progressive Muscle Relaxation, which allows you to work your muscles, tensing and relaxing as you take deep breaths.
  • Dec. 11: Meditation

Sound Immersion with Tanatara Healing: 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at Heinz Chapel. Through breathwork, intention setting, meditation and the sound of gong, crystal bowls, tibetan bowls and elemental chimes you will be guided inward to reconnect with your body and to come back to a place of inner stillness, peace and tranquility. Sound Immersions offer a safe space to relax and unwind and allow the body to move into a theta brainwave state, a state that offers the body the ability to replenish and activate its innate healing capacities. Ground yourself back into your body, back into the present moment, calm the mind and feel nurtured and deeply relaxed after this incredible soothing healing modality. Free for Pitt students, $10 for Pitt faculty & staff, and $18 for general admission. Sign up here.
