Apply now for Staff Council book, mentor and professional development awards

Applications are now being accepted for the Staff Council Mentor Award, the Frisch Staff Professional Development Award and the Staff Council Endowed Book Fund.

Established in 2001 and made possible through donations from University staff members, the Endowed Book Fund awards are used toward the purchase of books or supplies for qualified undergraduate students enrolled at any of the University of Pittsburgh campuses and whose parent or guardian is a dedicated staff member.

Awards are granted each academic year and presented at the Chancellor’s Staff Recognition Ceremony. Staff Council plans to award two scholarships of $500 each, to two students.

To be eligible, a student must:

  • Be current upperclassmen (non-first year student) enrolled as an undergraduate at any Pitt campus.

  • Be in good standing with at least a 2.0 grade point average.

  • Have a parent/guardian who is a regular full-time or regular part-time staff member at Pitt.

Staff Mentor Award: This award recognizes those staff members who place immense value on mentoring others. This award is given to a staff person who demonstrates this passion and excels as a mentor. Nominations are due March 31 and can be submitted here.

Frisch Staff Professional Development Award: The award named after Ronald Frisch, a former head of human resources, is designed to to defray the costs of approved professional development opportunities that directly contribute to the staff member’s career advancement and professional growth within Pitt. Recipients of the award must use it within one year of receiving it. Applicants must be benefits-eligible, non-union, part-time, or full-time professional employees across any of Pitt’s campuses who have maintained continuous employment with Pitt for at least one year and must secure supervisor approval as part of their application process. Applicants can request awards up to but not exceeding $1,000. Applications are due by April 26. Apply here.
