All Pitt faculty and staff are invited to participate in the 13th annual Assessment and Teaching Conference  from 8:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Oct. 4 in Alumni Hall, Connolly Ballroom.

This year’s keynote speakers, panelists and workshop will be focused on assessment of programs and student learning.

The keynote speaker will be Richard Donato, professor emeritus in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Leading in Pitt’s School of Education and currently professor and part-time faculty in the Learning Research and Development Center and the Institute for Learning. His research interests include early foreign language learning, Vygotskyan sociocultural historical theory, classroom discourse analysis, and teacher education. His talk will focus on “Transforming Instruction through Assessment.”

The lunchtime plenary session speaker will be Ryan S. Baker, professor in the Learning, Teaching and Literacies Division of the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education and director of the Penn Center for Learning Analytics. He will discuss “Using Large Language Models to Support Learners and Learning.”

A virtual pre-conference session, “Teaching Non-Major Students: Challenges and Possibilities,” will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 2. The session will be facilitated by Eva Erber, educational developer at the Center for Teaching and Learning at the University of Vienna, Austria, and a Ph.D. candidate at Rutgers, and Laina Lockett, a STEM education specialist, Stearns Center, George Mason University.
