Pitt’s Environmental Health & Safety Department will host a fire safety day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 27 at the William Pitt Union lawn and lower lounge.

The campus community will have a chance to learn more about fire prevention, safety, and hands-on fire extinguisher instruction with both a live propane-fueled fire and a digital fire.

It’s part of EH&S Safety Week. Other events are:

10 a.m. Sept. 23: Compressed Gas Safety by Matheson, 102 Benedum Hall

Sept. 24: AED Awareness by Zoll Medical. The 45-minute sessions will be held at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. in the Emergency Operations Center (4th floor) of the Public Safety Building, 3412 Forbes Ave. Space is limited, so register now.

10 a.m. Sept. 25: FBI's Chemical Academic Outreach. The FBI Pittsburgh Field Office will share information about its roles and responsibilities associated with the FBI’s Weapon of Mass Destruction program,  chemical counterterrorism initiatives, threat briefings, and current threats and trends. 102 Benedum Hall

1 p.m. Sept. 26: Portable Gas Detection by MSA

The Student Government Board also will be holding its Fall Safety Fair to educate students and staff about safety resources and healthy habits at Pitt. Many student organizations, University departments, and local Pittsburgh groups will provide self-defense tips, public transportation guidelines, healthy nutritional habits and environmental practices.

No registration is required, and free pizza, snacks, and drinks will be provided for all attendees. Students that record their attendance will be entered into a raffle and can win Pitt merchandise, Urbanista headphones, JBL Bluetooth Speaker, and Apple Airpods.

The Pitt Vaccination and Wellness HUB also will be offering flu and COVID-19 vaccines/boosters for Pitt students and employees.

In the event of incident weather, all the events will be moved to the William Pitt Union Ballroom.
