Staff Council Spring Assembly to feature Gabel, Lyke

Chancellor Joan Gabel and Director of Athletics Heather Lyke will be the featured speakers at Staff Council Spring Assembly — from noon to 1:30 p.m. May 8 at the William Pitt Union — announced EJ Milarski-Veenis, vice chair of the External Relations Committee, which sponsors the annual event.

Gabel will address staff aspects of the Plan for Pitt, while Lyke will speak about the overall benefit of being at Pitt.

This year’s assembly will have programming centered on the theme “Perks of Working for Pitt,” from discounts and tuition breaks to PittArts.

Also at Staff Council’s latest meeting on April 17, a new location for the picnic during Pitt Day at Kennywood was announced, next to the park’s “Kiddieland.” A link for online ticket sales will go up very soon at Staff Council’s website for the June 22 event. The day — another of the organization’s annual events — will offer preferred parking and extended ride hours.

Staff Council also has announced the hiring of a new administrator, Bob Slepsky, who will start on April 29.

The next meeting of Staff Council will be June 12. The May 15 meeting has been canceled, because of the chancellor’s faculty and staff picnic, the group said, although no official announcement has been made about the picnic.
