Pitt-Greensburg's Life Sciences Building has received a Crystal Award for Building Excellence from the Master Builder's Association of Western PA for new construction under $15 million.

"The Life Sciences Building has been an wonderful addition to the Pitt Greensburg campus,” said Pitt-Greensburg President Robert Gregerson. “Since the facility opened in January 2023, our programs in nursing and the sciences have greatly benefitted from state-of-the-art teaching and learning spaces, and the gathering areas have become popular among students as places to study and socialize. The building also is a beautiful focal point at the campus entrance, nicely complementing the other academic buildings and residence halls."

The award citation for the Life Sciences Building, which was designed by MCF Architecture, stated: “The design of this addition to Pitt-Greensburg’s campus blends seamlessly with surrounding buildings with its crisp, clean look.”

Rycon Construction Inc. served as general contractor for the two-story, 32,085-square-foot facility that houses labs for nursing, health science, biology, microbiology and chemistry — along with faculty offices and shared study space. “The quality of workmanship showcases the superior skill of all the craftspeople on the job and enhances the beauty of the design," the citation said.

The construction project contributed an estimated $3 million in economic output to the region’s economy and an estimated 125 non-permanent direct jobs.
