School of Law dean search open forum set for April 1

A search committee has been formed and an open forum is planned to help find Pitt’s next School of Law dean.

Gene Anderson, dean of the Katz Graduate School of Business and College of Business Administration, is chairing the committee, which includes law school professors and staff, a judge, a Board of Trustees member and the president of the student bar association.

The committee will hold an open forum to allow members of the community to provide input into the search process at 4 p.m. April 1, via Zoom. See the University Events Calendar for additional information.

Interested parties also can share thoughts and feedback regarding the next dean through an online survey.

The law school dean position has been in flux since January 2023, when Amy Wildermuth stepped down after almost five years in the position. Professor Haider Ala Hamoudi stepped into the position for a few months before leaving to become dean of the University of Cincinnati College of Law.

Professor and former Dean Mary Crossley has been serving as interim dean of the School of Law since July 1, 2023.

The provost’s office also has searches ongoing for deans of the School of Education and Swanson School of Engineering; director of the Learning Research & Development Center; and vice provost for student affairs.

Chancellor Joan Gabel said at the March 21 Senate Council meeting that interviews are now underway with finalists for the engineering dean position. “School of Education finalists interviews will begin soon on track to finish according to the schedule,” she said. “Vice provost for student affairs interviews will begin soon.”

The chancellor said her office also is in the process of forming the search committee for a chief financial officer, and a search consultant firm has been identified.
