Staff Council events to feature Gallaher and community affairs information

Community Affairs and Human Resources are the focus of a pair of Staff Council events this month that let staff members gain insights into Pitt departments and personnel.

The online-only Staff Spotlight (noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 21 on Zoom) features Gabrielle DeMarchi, assistant director of community affairs in the Office of Engagement and Community Affairs, detailing how staff may get paid time off each month to take part in community service or volunteer projects. Her office can help to connect staffers with the right service opportunity, including during Pitt’s Signature Days of Service (such as the upcoming Civic Action Week). She will speak about helping out in Oakland and elsewhere. Register here to get the Zoom link.

The in-person Coffee and Conversation this month (10:30-11 a.m. Sept. 28 in the Alumni Hall auditorium, 7th floor) is a talk with James Gallaher, vice chancellor of Human Resources, who will discuss how he arrived in his current post and his goals for the department. A recording of the event, hosted by Sam Young, Staff Council’s Staff Life Committee vice chair, will be available afterward on the Staff Council website under events. Register here and submit any questions for Gallaher.
